Introduction Post

Hello! My name is Annabelle Hollandbeck. I am a junior from Indiana. My major is Art Education. My goal is to obtain my masters, and then later in life become an art professor. I would love to be a ceramics professor one day and have my own studio. Some hobbies of mine are reading, drawing, listening to music, and playing lacrosse. I am currently reading the long haul of Sarah J. Maas's Throne of Glass series. I am on book four, Heir of Fire. I play lacrosse here at CSU-P. A fun fact about me is that I collect crystals. I have over 174 different unique crystals! My favorite color is forest green. The picture is my cat, Romeo, and I. We call him Romy!

The artwork I chose is the "Unfinished Painting" by Keith Haring. I find this painting beautiful for many reasons. Keith Haring is my favorite artists of all time. I love what he stood for, and I take a lot of inspiration from his work. He dared to be different and advocate for issues in the world that no one dared to speak about. This being mainly related to AIDS. Around the time that this piece was created, Keith Haring knew he had been diagnosed with AIDS. The meaning of the unfinished painting is that it was completed right before Keith Haring passed away from this disease at the age of 31. Keith Haring died two years after this piece, and it resembles a youthful life cut short. While this piece is completed, it gives the essence of the process being interrupted. This was Keith's message. AIDS had taken the life of many people at a young age, and the states had been doing very little to help treat or prevent it. Keith Haring created many pieces of art that raised awareness about AIDS, and he encouraged people to have safe sex through his art. His art to me is beautiful because its colorful, fun, and funky, but it also has a deeper meaning. I love his style and the bold lines and colors he uses. I selected this art piece objectively, because all of Keith's pieces are beautiful to me, and objectively I love his work. This piece is one of the sadder ones he has, but I see the beauty beyond the sadness. Keith Haring died two years after this piece, and it resembles a youthful life cut short.
